A lot of geese and a few ducks have arrived in the area. Pheasant hunters are finding a lot of birds, also.
Large groups of turkey are being seen. Fall turkey season is Oct. 1-Dec. 2; Dec.15-31; and Jan. 5-31, 2009. We are in Unit 2 and each hunter may get one permit and up to 3 game tags for a total of 4 birds, both sexes, in the Fall season.
Spring turkey season will be here sooner than you think. Dates are April 8-May 31, 2009. A special archery turkey season is April 1-7, 2009. Spring season is a 2 bird limit with gobblers only.
Deer season looks promising. Several 160 class bucks have been scouted. We still have openings for late season archery hunts.
Duck season in Kansas runs from Oct. 25-Dec. 28, 2008 and Jan. 17-25, 2009.
     Goose season is Nov. 5, 2008-Feb. 15, 2009.
We have a controlled shooting area for pheasant and quail which allows us to hunt through March 31, 2009. When the dates match up, we offer a Combo-Hunt which includes ducks or geese in the early a.m. followed with a pheasant/quail hunt after lunch. This is an exciting combo.
Cottontail rabbits can be great fun if you have a rabbit dog. Season is open year around with a 10 rabbit daily limit and 30 possession limt.
We've had several hunters fly into Wichita and drive out to meet family and friends at the Irish Creek Lodge. It's a great central location for a Kansas Hunt. Call us to book one !!

'08-'09 Hunting Is Around the Corner

NON-RESIDENT DEER TAGS STILL AVAILABLE:
As of Sept. 4th, the Kansas Dept. of Wildlife and Parks still has 50
tags for Unit 6 and 150 tags for Unit 13. Both Unit 6 and 13 are
border units with Unit 15. You may hunt in one joinging unit but
you must select that unit when you apply. The tags are selling
fast. If you want to hunt with Irish Creek Outfitters, you should
apply quickly. I will be happy to help with the details. Give us a
call at 888.880.7887 OR call KDWP directly at 620.672.0781.

PHEASANT & QUAIL:
Bird numbers look good. We have received lots of rain and have
great cover, food, pheasants, and quail. The dogs will get a real
workout this year. Dove season started Sept. 1st with the usual
great hunt the first few days. Cold weather may have sent them
south a little early this year. Temps are in the 60's and will remain
coll for a few days.

SOME DATES TO REMEMBER:
Deer Season: Muzzleload: Sept. 22-Oct. 5
Archery: Sept. 22-Dec. 31
Rifle: Dec. 3-14

   Waterfowl: Early Teal: Sept. 13-28
Ducks: Oct. 25-Dec. 28
Jan17-24, 2009
Geese: Oct. 25,26
Nov. 5-Feb. 15, 2009
Turkery: Fall/Winter: Oct. 1-Dec. 2
Dec. 15-31
Jan. 5-31, 2009
Spring: April 8-May 31, 2009

THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU HUNT:
* Get some exercise! Both you and your dog need to get out of the
house and try to get in shape.
* Get your eyes checked. You may really have an excuse for poor
shooting
*  Clean your guns.
* Rifles should be sited at 90 yards and also at 150 yards. Kansas
has some wide open areas so a 400 yard shot is possible. How
much drop does your gun have at 400 yards?
* If you call your own ducks, geese, and turkeys, be sure to
practice ahead of time.
* Irish Creek Outfitters requires you to wear hunter orange
caps and/or shell vests.

I'm sure I've forgotten some important items, but this should get
you started. Start planning now for a great Kansas Hunt with us!

Steve
Irishcreekoutfitters.steve@gmail.com
888.880.7887
